PARKING SERVICES

Welcome to Maidstone Borough Council Parking Services

Here you will find useful information on parking in the Borough of Maidstone, from parking permits and parking fines to the locations of parking zones and car parks.

Maidstone Borough Council Resident Parking Scheme and Pay & Display Car Park Proposals

The council wants to make it easier for permit holders to park closer to their homes.  Commuters and shoppers are parking in residential streets, often making it very difficult for permit holders to find a space.

We want to give priority to residents by charging non-permit holders for parking in your street.  The charges would be the same rate as off street car parks and parking would be limited to 30 minutes or one hour.  This would encourage drivers to use car parks, which are closer to the town, instead of your street.

We propose to ask every resident to pay a new annual charge of £25 for their first permit.  It is fairer to ask everyone who benefits from the service to pay for it.  Some people might prefer to make better use of garages or off street parking areas and this will free up more space for residents who have to have a permit.

(Currently permit holders can park in any of the north zones.  We think this is unfair because permit holders throughout the area are parking in the zone closest to the town to walk to the shops. We want to ask residents to park within their zones.  This will mean that residents in all the zones will have a better chance of parking close to home.)

The full proposals will be advertised early next year and you’ll have three weeks to submit comments.  All comments will be considered.

Traffic Management Act 2004

Changes to the way Maidstone Borough Council enforce parking regulations in accordance with the Civil Parking Enforcement Regulations have come into affect since 31st March 2008.

The new regulations, which form Part 6 of the Traffic Management Act 2004 are the biggest change to parking enforcement in England and Wales for many years.

Under the new regulations this activity will become known as Civil Parking Enforcement and Parking Attendants will become known as Civil Enforcement Officers.

New Tarriff's for Penalty Charges

 £70  £50  £35/£25

Maidstone Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Enviroinment agreed the charges on 15th February 2008.

Currently just over 50% of PCN’s issued in Maidstone would fall into the less serious category and so many people in the borough who fall foul of parking regulations will be paying less in the future.

The new regulations, which cover on street and off street parking, aim to make parking fairer and more transparent and provide motorists with a consistent service across the country.

Preparations include a full review of local parking orders, road markings and traffic signs to ensure they comply with the new regulations, changes are also required to IT systems, uniforms, printed stationery and staff training.

Prohibition of Parking on the Footway or Verge

Since the end of November 2008, the newly introduced Prohibition of parking on the footway/verge scheme has been in operation in Bicknor Road, Bell Road and Wallis Avenue in the Parkwood area. The scheme was implemented after consultation with residents and approval from the Cabinet Member for Transportation after pavement and verge parking was brought to our attention and the negative impact it was having on the local area for residents. Vehicles parking in such a manner cause many difficulties to local residents and can affect access/egress to driveways and also to pedestrians.

On-Street Tariff Parking Charges

The current tariffs for the on-street meter bays were changed as from the 28th November 2008, for further information on all of Maidstone Borough Council's Off-street and On-street parking charges as well as Season Ticket prices, please follow the link to the Car Park Charges page.
