COMMITTEES
The Overview and Scrutiny Committees have two roles: to hold the
Executive to account and to help develop new policies. They
therefore monitor decisions taken by Cabinet Members and examine
the provision of services supplied by Council departments,
contractors, and external agencies, e.g. Primary Care Trust, Kent
County Council, within the Borough.
Regulatory Committee dealing with planning applications, tree
preservation orders etc.
Regulatory Committees dealing with licensing applications,
policy, fees and charges and licensing appeals.
Promotion of high standards of conduct by
Councillors and helping them to observe the Code of
Conduct.
The Audit Committee ensures the adequacy of
the risk management framework and oversees the financial reporting
process.
Representatives from employers and employees
(Union Representatives) on issues relating to the employment of
staff by the Council.
Monitors the performance of the Maidstone
Housing Trust.
Deals with all the Development Plan documents
within the Local Development Framework and gives advice to Cabinet,
the Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Council.
A forum for representatives from MBC and KCC
to discuss transport issues in Maidstone.
Determines terms and conditions for all staff
and reviews performance of Chief Executive and Deputy Chief
Executive.
