The Committees

There are four Overview and Scrutiny Committees which correspond to the portfolios held by the Cabinet.

The Environment and Leisure Overview and Scrutiny Committee is responsible for monitoring issues relating to waste collection and recycling, leisure, sport, lifelong learning including museums and the theatre, the market, cemeteries and crematoriums, environmental health and parks and open spaces.

The External Overview and Scrutiny Committee is responsible for looking at partnership agencies such as NHS bodies and the Police, as well as social inclusion and young people.

The Regeneration and Sustainable Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee is responsible for monitoring issues relating to the provision of housing, parking services, economic development and concessionary fares.

The Corporate Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee is responsible for monitoring issues relating to the development of policy framework documents, the budget, performance management, corporate services and procurement.

You can find out more about each committee's work and when their next meeting is by following the links on the left.

The Overview and Scrutiny Section also supports a Youth Scrutiny Committee which is made up of members of Maidstone Youth Forum and meets monthly.  The Youth Scrutiny Committee is currently looking into the provision of Sex and Relationships Education in the Borough.  If you would like further information on this committee, please contact Louise Smith at louisesmith@maidstone.gov.uk.
